Rhynchophorus ferrugineus trap

Pitfall-type trap specially developed for monitoring insects that carry out their activity at the level of the surface or the surface layer of the soil, namely, beetles whose larvae attack the root zone and base of the stems or pseudostems of  specific crops (for example: Rhynchophorus ferrugineus which attacks the Canary Island date palm, the date palm and also coconut palms). It requires the installation of a specific aggregation pheromone dispenser (consult the information regarding the product - purchased separately). For the initial monitoring, 1 to 2 traps should be installed per hectare of occupied area, with their number being increased up to a maximum of 5 traps per hectare in cases of high infestation. The trap should be installed directly on the soil surface, slightly away from the target plants and in a way that allows the easy access of the insects to it from the soil and simultaneously the perfect diffusion of the pheromone or attractant. The placement and maintenance of a few centimetres of soapy water or vegetable oil in the base of the inner tray assists in the retention of the captured insects.

The trap Rhynchophorus ferrugineus consists of:

• 1 funnel-shaped body in black and with fittings for the internal installation of the tray and external installation of the cover;
• 1 base / tray in white for collecting the captured insects and for the installation of a special pheromone or attractant dispenser / diffuser with fittings;
• 1 cage with lid, both in green, for mounting the usual pheromone dispenser / diffuser and which fits into the orifice in the cover.

Dose: 1 to 5 traps w/ dispenser/ha (depending on the area, season, plant density and intensity of the attack).

Attention: Frequent monitoring and cleaning of the traps is recommended.
