Fungicides and elicitors represent two complementary approaches to crop protection, integrating strategically into the principles of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and the requirements of modern European agriculture. While fungicides act directly on the pathogenic agents, reducing their viability and infection capacity, elicitors stimulate the natural defence mechanisms of plants, strengthening their intrinsic resistance to diseases.
The fungicides included in this category are distinguished by formulations of low environmental impact, frequently based on active substances of natural origin, such as bicarbonates or mineral compounds. These products act by contact, altering the surface conditions of the plant and inhibiting the development of fungi such as powdery mildew, alternaria or other foliar diseases. Their use is compatible with organic farming and with integrated protection programmes, allowing dependence on synthetic fungicides to be reduced and risks of resistance to be minimised.
Elicitors, in turn, do not present direct action on the pathogenic agent. Instead, they activate physiological responses of the plant, such as the production of phytoalexins, lignification, thickening of the cuticle or activation of metabolic defence pathways, creating a state of “alert” that increases the response capacity in the face of infections. This approach strengthens the resilience of crops, improves the overall effectiveness of protection programmes and contributes to a significant reduction in the number of conventional treatments.
The integration of fungicides and elicitors makes it possible to build more robust, sustainable and technically balanced protection programmes, adjusted to European regulatory requirements and to the needs of intensive crops. At BIOSANI, this category brings together validated, safe and effective solutions, suitable for viticulture, fruit growing, horticulture and other specialised productions that require high precision and reliability in disease control.
