Yellow Funnel Trap CB - Maximised Capture for Erratic-Flight Pests

The Yellow Funnel Trap with Cross Barrier (CB) was especially developed for the intensive monitoring of large lepidoptera and small to medium-sized coleoptera with erratic flight, in forests, vegetable crops (outdoors or protected), cereals, ornamentals and pastures.

Its innovative structure combines the chromatic attractiveness of the yellow colour with the targeted action of specific semiochemicals (purchased separately), such as sex pheromones or others. The presence of the CB significantly increases the reception area of the insects' flight, channelling them into the interior of the trap and increasing the number of captures, especially of species with disordered flight or of larger size, whose entry is limited in conventional traps.

Installation should be carried out at the level of the tree canopy or slightly above the crop, according to the type of cultivation. The transparent cup allows a quick visual inspection of the captures, without the need to open or handle the trap.

Composition of the trap

• Transparent funnel-shaped cup with fittings for attachment to the funnel;
• Opaque yellow funnel with fittings for connection to the cup and the cross barrier;
• Opaque yellow cross barrier, composed of two interlocking plates;
• Opaque green lid with attachment points for the cage and suspension cord;
• Cage with lid with a fitting for installation of the sex pheromone dispenser or others (purchased separately);
• Suspension cord for secure mounting at the monitoring site

Recommended applications

• Monitoring of pests such as Zeuzera pyrina, Melolontha spp., Popillia japonica and others;
• Forests, vegetable crops, meadows, pastures and ornamentals;
• Early detection or precision monitoring in programmes of Integrated Production and Organic Agriculture;
• Situations that require greater efficiency in the capture of erratic-flight insects.

Dose: 2 to 10 traps w/ dispenser/ha (depending on the objective, plot, crop density, season and intensity of the attack).

Attention: Adding 100 to 200 ml of water (2 to 3 cm in height) with a few drops of neutral soap or unused vegetable oil in the bottom of the cup helps to retain the captured insects inside the trap. Frequent monitoring and cleaning of the trap is recommended, especially when the target pests are erratic-flight coleoptera (example: Japanese beetle), given the rapid exhaustion of the storage capacity of the trap's cup during the peak of the pests' flight. The yellow colour can attract beneficial insects, namely bees, which may inadvertently be captured in the trap. A prior assessment of each situation / target pest is recommended, along with the selection of other trap colours whenever possible for the monitoring of the target pest. Alternatively, other options should be considered for the monitoring of the target pest in situations where the use of the yellow colour results in a high capture of beneficial insects in the trap.
