Rebell^® Rosso - Reusable System for the Monitoring and Control of the Ambrosia Beetle in Orchards and Vineyards

Reusable red chromotropic system, specially developed for the monitoring and control of the ambrosia beetle or pear blight beetle (Xyleborus dispar), a xylophagous pest that severely affects pome fruits, stone fruits and vineyards. Its high effectiveness and simplicity of installation make it an indispensable tool for producers who seek to protect their crops in a sustainable way.

How It Works

• The females of Xyleborus dispar are attracted by the intense red colour and by the odour of weakened trees, being captured on the adhesive plates;
• The system allows the early detection of the pest flight, which occurs between March and April, with activity until August;
• Each female can generate up to 40 larvae, making preventive intervention essential.

Kit Composition

Each package contains:

• 8 cross traps (20 × 15 cm), coated with glue and ready to install;
• Red chromotropic plates mounted in a cross;
• Compatible with a perforated plastic bottle (not included) for placing the liquid attractant.

The glue used is resistant to water and to thermal variations, and can be renewed with the product Tangle-Trap (156 g), commercially available.

Recommended Installation

1. Mount the plates in a cross and fix with wires (not included) next to the trunk or 50-100 cm from the ground in vineyards;
2. Suspend the bottle with diluted attractant (1:1 with lukewarm water) 20-30 cm below the plates (The liquid attractant has ethyl alcohol as its active substance, marketed as denatured ethyl alcohol at 94% with 1% toluol. As an alternative, ethyl alcohol at 94% diluted 1:1 with lukewarm water can be used. An undiluted fruit or cherry distillate is also effective);
3. Renew the attractant 1-3 times per week, according to the climatic conditions.

Trap Density

• Monitoring: 1 trap per plot up to 1 ha;
• Active control: minimum of 8 traps per hectare;
• In areas close to infested hedges or forests, install at the ends of the plot.

Interpretation of the Captures

• < 20 captures/trap/day → Low pressure: monitor the pest and prune/eliminate affected branches;
• > 20 captures/trap/day → High pressure: eliminate infested trees by incineration during the winter.
