DROSAL^® Pro Trap for Monitoring and Capture of Drosophila suzukii

The trap was developed for the effective monitoring and capture of the spotted wing drosophila (Drosophila suzukii), also known as the vinegar fly. This pest poses a significant threat to several agricultural crops, including soft fruits, grapes, vegetables and ornamentals, due to its ability to lay eggs in still-healthy fruit.

Trap Composition

The device consists of:

• Reservoir cup with 4 slots: Material: transparent and translucent Polypropylene (PP), Dimensions: 6 cm in height; lower diameter of 5.5 cm and upper diameter of 7.5 cm, Weight: 15 g;
• Black lid with installation hanger and 4 snap-fit clips: Material: Polypropylene (PP); Dimensions: 12 cm in height; 7.8 cm in diameter; Weight: 10 g.

Operating Mode

• The trap uses ~ 100 ml of specific attractant DrosaLure^® (purchased separately);
• The odour of the attractant draws in the adult pests, which enter through one of the 12 openings located at the junction between the cup and the lid;
• Once inside, the insects are retained and eventually die, allowing precise monitoring of the population.

Installation and Use

• The trap should be installed at the height where pest activity is expected (~ 0.5 - 2 m), preferably in the shade and along the outer perimeter of the plot;
• It is recommended to place 1 to 4 traps per hectare for monitoring, increasing up to 200 to 400 traps/ha in cases of severe infestation;
• The attractant should be replaced every 3 - 4 weeks, according to the evaporation rate and capture level.

Attention: Consult the literature on the biology / ecology of the pest for the area, region or country and the recommendations contained in the circulars issued by the activity of the Agricultural Warning Station. Using pest monitoring methodologies in agricultural crops always presupposes that they are accompanied by a consistent plan for sampling the damage (harm and losses), to assess the risk with regard to the economic level of attack.
