BioProtex® trap - Efficient Solution for Monitoring Fruit Flies in Fruit and Vegetable Crops

BioProtex® trap is a food attractant in concentrated solution (SL), formulated with hydrolysed beet molasses (with 50% crude protein) and urea (17%). It is intended for use in Tephri traps (McPhail trap), for the monitoring of fruit flies (Tephritidaethat cause significant damage in fruit and vegetable crops, being ideal for growers who value quality, sustainability and profitability.

Target crops

  • Fruit trees: Juglandaceae, Oleaceae, Rosaceae and others;
  • Vegetables: Cucurbitaceae and Solanaceae.

Target Pests (with action on males and females)

  • Ceratitis capitata (Mediterranean fruit fly);
  • Bactrocera oleae (Olive fruit fly);
  • Rhagoletis cerasi (Cherry fruit fly);
  • Rhagoletis completa (Walnut husk fly);
  • Bactrocera dorsalis (Oriental fruit fly);
  • Bactrocera cucurbitae (Melon fly);
  • Other species susceptible to the attractant.

How to use:

  • Apply in Tephri traps, on their own or in combination with specific pheromone dispensers (sold separately);
  • Dilute with water according to the purpose of the application (installation or refill).

Recommended installation:

  • Location: Canopy area exposed to the morning sun;
  • Height: Between 1 to 3 m, avoiding obstructions by leaves or branches;
  • Density: 1 to 2 traps/ha from March for early detection50 to 80 traps/ha after detection, for intensive monitoring; Alternatively, 50 traps/ha when the fruits are susceptible to attack;
  • Distribution in a triangular grid, with reinforcement in the peripheral areas.

Monitoring:

  • Regular follow-up (weekly or fortnightly) is essential to determine the flight curve and to define effective and economically viable interventions.

Advantages

  • Significant reduction of damage and losses in production;
  • Accurate and economical monitoring, based on weekly or fortnightly flight curves;
  • Biodegradable, non-toxic solution, safe for the environment and for operators;
  • Compatible with Organic and Integrated Agriculture strategies.

Attention: It is recommended to consult literature on the biology / ecology of the target pest for the area, region or country and the recommendations contained in the circulars of the Agricultural Warning Station. The use of pest monitoring methodologies in agricultural crops requires them to be accompanied by a consistent plan for sampling the damage (harm and losses) to production, in order to determine the risk, as regards the economic level of attack.

Dose: 100 to 150mL of diluted attractant solution/trap (maintain the solution level depending on evaporation - 3 to 4 weeks - consult the documentation).

The product is available in a 5L pack.

Should you wish to acquire other solutions for this or for other species of Diptera (Tephritidae or Drosophilidae), go to the section dedicated to products for fruit flies, or contact us through the contact form.
