Blue Chromotropic Plates - Effective Monitoring of Thrips and Whiteflies

The Blue Chromotropic Plates are an ecological and highly effective solution for the monitoring of flying insects, especially thrips (Thrips spp.) and whiteflies, in agricultural crops outdoors or in greenhouses. Their intense blue shade exerts a strong visual attraction on these pests, allowing early and precise detection.

Mode of Action

• The blue colour attracts the target insects, which become stuck to the non-drying glue applied on both sides of the plate;
• To enhance the capture of thrips, joint use with the Thrips spp dispenser (purchased separately) is recommended, as it emits attractive volatile compounds (see specific installation instructions).

Technical Characteristics

• Material: Rigid thermoplastic resin in polyethylene (PE);
• Plate dimensions: 20 x 25 cm;
• Printed grid: 20 x 20 cm with 64 subunits of 2.5 x 2.5 cm to facilitate counting;
• Suspension: 2 perforations per plate + green plastic-coated metal wires (20 cm);
• Protection: Glue protected by a non-stick film for easy handling.

Recommended Application

• Minimum installation: 20 plates per hectare;
• The density can and should be adjusted up to a maximum of 400 plates per hectare, depending on the intensity of the pest, type of crop and objective (monitoring or mass capture).

Attention: Frequent monitoring and periodic replacement of the trap are recommended, especially in situations where the intensity of the capture level reduces the capacity of the glue to properly retain the attracted insects. The blue colour does not normally attract beneficials, namely bees, but in rare exceptions they may be observed in the trap. A prior assessment of each situation / target pest is recommended, as well as the selection of other trap colours whenever this is possible for the monitoring of the target pest. Alternatively, you should consider other options for the monitoring of the target pest in situations where the use of the blue colour results in a high capture of beneficials in the trap.
